Never leave your child unattended near a pool. They should only be watched by an adult or a certified lifeguard if you are unable to be there yourself. Never rely on a sibling or young child to supervise your child in or near a pool. Young children are easily distracted and don't realize how quickly a child can slip underwater and drown.
If you have a pool you should know that there are many devices on the market that will alarm you if a child is exiting a door near a pool. This could be very helpful in warning you that a child may be near a pool unattended.
A pool cover, netting or fence are other ways you can protect your child from an accidental drowning. Unfortunately, childhood drownings are the number one killer of children and they are totally preventable. Please watch your child diligently around water, it takes only minutes for them to drown.
